And Still Snowing! |
March 21, 2018
Tis the first day of Spring and we have had to shovel snow three times in twenty-four hours!! You can see from the photo above that we have had about eight inches of the nasty stuff. We thought it would be fun to have an early spring in West By God Virginia so we only stayed in Nice until the middle of February. For the most part, that was a good decision. One day - last week in fact - we had temperatures that hit 80 and that was weird. Then we had five days of fierce winds that played havoc with our fences and other people’s trees and roofs. The new homes around us all seem to have had roof damage, which came as no surprise to anyone who watched how those homes were roofed. I’ve never seen cheaper shingles or more inept roofers in my life and now these homes, some of which are not even six months old, have to have patches and temporary covers. They are using the same blue tarps that FEMA uses so it looks a lot like Puerto Rico around here.
Aside from the weather, we have had a tranquil pre-spring. Megan is doing wonderfully and has been back to work for several months. The rest of the kids and families are doing quite well, with the exception of Aidan who managed to royally mess up his knee in an attempt to pole vault. Who in his or her right mind wants to pole vault? With the exception of prisoners trying to make a daring escape, what is the point? Anyway, he has been laid up for weeks and has a few more weeks to go before any more surfing or jumping.
Cindy continues to enjoy her music and her performances, and is off tomorrow for a three day music camp in Warm Springs, Virginia. She has been practicing and rehearsing with others for weeks. We had her trio - along with their significant others - for a dinner party last Saturday. I must say it has been a while since we entertained but it did come back to us and it was a swell evening. Spanish themed with lots of sherry, tapas, angulas, cheeses, Rioja and Spanish brandies. Quite the do and my entertaining has been done and dusted for several months.
We head to La Jolla for two weeks right after Easter which of course will assure a warm and pleasant fortnight here in Charles Town. To the three or four of you who have seen me on Facebook, quit looking anymore! I’ve had it with pets, children and lovely announcements from people I’ve never heard of but are somehow friends of friends. I’m also upset with how they handle, or don’t handle, privacy! I’ll use my new free time to learn Esperanto!
Best to all, Cindy and William
